The Pre-production Process in Garment Industry

* To start the production of an order, the factory needs to go through some process known as pre-production process. 

* Sampling, sourcing of raw material, merchandising and production planning are some of the activities of the pre-production process.

 

Sampling

* According to a buyer's requirement, the sampling is done by the sampling in-charge and it is also known as the product development stage.

Samples are required at various stages to get approval from a buyer on a particular design.

* Some of the sample types are Proto sample,

1. Fit sample

2. Size set sample

3. Salesman sample

4. The Production sample

5. Top of Production (TOP) sample

6. Shipment sample

 

Production Planning 

* After receiving the order, the factory plans to source for the requirement of raw material.

* Raw materials include fabrics, sewing threads, packing materials, hang tags, polybags, and other accessories.

 

FOB Price

* After confirming the order with the buyer (Approved sample b the buyer), the exporter needs to confirm the FOB(Freight on Board) price with the buyer.

* The FOB price includes direct labor cost, raw material cost, finishing cost, overheads cost and profit of the Exporter. 

* A business is all about making the profit. So, the actual costing of a product is very important before finalizing an order.

 

Process Planning

The factory plans the process that,

i.   when to start cutting?

ii.  when to submit the pre-production sample?

iii. when to finish sewing and finishing?

And also estimate the time period of the final inspection date and shipment date.
